Vinney was a former:  New York State Probation Officer; New York State Senior Parole Officer; former Unit Chief for Undercover and Sensitive Operations for the FBI. He was in Higher Education for 20 years, established the Security Management Program at Community College of Denver; established the Criminal Justice Program for Johnson & Wales University, Denver Campus; held various teaching and administrative positions at Regis University. He retired from Regis University in 2020. Upon retirement at Regis University he was awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus. 

He has been active in the Denver Chapter since 1998 and served in a variety of roles to include: Chapter Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. He was also involved with a number of other volunteer organizations such as, Crime Stoppers and the Foundation for the Prevention of School Violence. He is currently the President of the Intermountain Humane Society.
